The Arizona scarf is a 2018 creation, created and knitted directly on the farm with our fiber. From Quebec, unique and in limited number, it is not possible to find it elsewhere! It is a product of Quebec terroir with all the authenticity it is possible to have and the scarcity of this kind of products in our landscapes. Because although the fibre of the alpaca is more and more popular, it is far from being all the alpaca products that are found on the market which is as authentically Quebec as the Arizona scarf; there is a lot of import.
The Arizona scarf is for all the proud Quebecers who want to encourage artisanal clothing and the production of Quebec fibre!
This scarf is long enough to be knotted in different ways, but not too much to be cumbersome. 60 inches long, it can do 2 turn around your neck. On the other hand, because of the thickness, it is most often used with one turn. Soft and fluffy, it gives the impression, literally, of a hug with an animal of incomparable sweetness. In fact, Alpaca is considered world-wide as one of the softest and warmest fibers in the world. As it breathes well, the body heat is pleasantly preserved and the humidity evacuated. Alpaca is a very light natural fiber; An alpaca scarf is therefore lighter than another one of the same size in sheep.
On the technical side, it is a reversible twisted scarf with a very fluffy 1-strand alpaca yarn and with little twist called "lopi". The lopi is usually made of the fiber of the crias (the alpaca babies) since it requires a longer fiber. The lopi cannot be knitted other than on the needle; this kind of scarf takes more than 8h for the confection!
A scarf like this is hand-washable, delicately, in cold water; never in washing machine or dryer! You can simply let it soak in a sink with cold soapy water for at least 20-30 minutes. We then press it to let absorb the water and evacuate it several times before rinse it by doing the same; don't "rub". To wring it out, after removing the excess water, it can be wrapped in a towel and pressing so that it absorbs over water. It is possible to spin only by using the washing machine, but you have to monitor the process and do it with a little more precaution.
The scarf is dried flat at room temperature to prevent it from stretching or deforming. Normally, if it is well spin, the alpaca dries very quickly. Often, alpaca items only take one night to dry!
This kind of item is rarely "dirty", so personally I only wash it once a season, in the spring, before storing for following winter. Well maintained, the alpaca does not felt and can keep all its beauty for many years!
